The word charcuterie comes from 15th-century France, meaning “cooked meats” (chair = flesh, cuit = cooked). Originally, it referred to the art of preparing and preserving meats like ham, pâté, sausage, and terrine — essential culinary traditions long before refrigeration.

Over time, this practice evolved into the modern charcuterie board — a beautifully arranged spread of cured meats, cheeses, fruits, nuts, crackers, and artisanal spreads.
